So buckle up, keep your hands and arms inside the vehicle at all times, and enjoy the ride. Here are each of our top 3 ride picks at Magic Kingdom!

#3 – Voyage of the Little Mermaid

Voyage of the Little Mermaid Scence

I know this ride isn’t super thrilling or anything, but Ariel is totally my favourite Disney princess. I really love the pretty colours of the fish and I LOVE the music, especially in the “Under the Sea” section  –  it just really makes me happy! My favourite part of the ride is the ending scene where Ariel gains her voice back, and the golden heart is traced over her and Prince Eric (pictured above). The whole thing just gives me a nice, fuzzy, warm feeling!

#2 The Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion

The reason The Haunted Mansion is number two on my list is that it reminds me of Halloween! Honestly, it has to be one of my favourite times of the year. There is certainly a lot to see on the ride, so each time you ride it, you get to see something new. The scenes that stick out to me the most are: the ghosts dancing in the dining room, Madame Leota’s floating head scene (Serpents, spiders, tail of a rat. Call in the spirits, wherever they’re at!), and lastly, the graveyard scene where all the ghosts are singing. Ugh, It all totally reminds me of Halloween!

#1 Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

7DMT is the best ride! It’s one of those roller coasters that is thrilling, but a “fun” kind of thrilling – not the, “I’m gonna barf because my stomach is all the way in the sky” kind of thrilling. I really love how the ride is broken up into the roller coaster bits, and the “heigh-ho” mining song in the middle of the ride. It’s a great balance. One thing you have to try is 7DMT at night. Everything looks so much more different with the night-time lighting effects! Even the queue is a lot of fun to walk through – with the interactive games to keep you busy while you wait your turn.

I had a really tough time with this! Seriously, how do you choose 3! There are so many head liners at Magic Kingdom!

#3 The Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion cracked my top 3 as well – for a few different reasons than Mona’s. The music throughout the ride is so catchy, and I find myself humming the song even after we’ve left Magic Kingdom for the day! It’s not scary by any means – Disney has a way of making things spooky, but not frightening, which I like. The colour palette during the ride is excellent. It has lots of dark shades, with fluorescent blueish colours throughout to emphasize the ghosts and ghouls. Lastly, I love the effects – I am a total sucker for practical effects. The scene at the end with the hitch-hiking ghosts who interact with your “doom buggy” is REALLY well done.

*Bonus: The grave diggers are my favourite act from the Boo-to-you parade at the Halloween party. I know they’re not technically in the attraction, but are tied to The Haunted Mansion.

#2 Pirates of the Caribbean

The fact that I am a huge fan of the films is the reason why Pirates ended up as my number 2. I love Johnny Depp’s interpretation of his character, the adventure, the ships on the Caribbean sea, and the swash-bucket stories. POTC just brings that all together so nicely!

One scene I can’t get over is with the cute dog who’s holding the keys to the prison cell. The prisoners are trying to lure him over with bones. Unbeknownst to them, the ceiling behind them has caved in leaving a clean escape route. I love it!

Another thing I like about POTC are the very unique smells on the ride. When the boat travels under the bridge after the redhead lady scene, there is a distinct smell of what I can decipher to be smokey marshmallow popcorn + rum! It’s really cool, and Mona and I turn to each other every time to check if we both caught a whiff of it.

#1 Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

Gems at Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Queue

My ride or die at Magic Kingdom is undoubtedly Seven Dwarfs Mine Train as well. It certainly isn’t as thrilling as say Rockn’ Roller Coaster, but you can certainly tell Disney Imagineers do a lot of research into the design of their rides. They do such an outstanding job at creating drops, twists, and turns that give you thrilling sensations, but not so “over-the-top” that you feel nauseous when you get off.

Secondly, the queue. They really make waiting for the ride enjoyable. A highlight for me is the spinning gem barrels.
TIP: If you can get all the barrels spinning at the same time, there is a surprise that shows up on the ceiling (hint: Snow White makes an appearance).

My favourite part of the ride is the mine. The brightly lit gems, the energy, and the song makes you smile each and every time. You can’t help join in as the 8th dwarf singing: “Heigh-Ho, Heigh-Ho, It’s off to work we go!”
